What does acne do to your face?
Well, ask a person with acne and they will tell you that it can be socially isolating because going out in public can be sometimes embarrassing. Acne breakouts in the teen years can make a person feel awkward and socially unacceptable at a time when they are just beginning to define who they are.
While some people suffer with acne more than others, there are things that can be done to control angry breakouts of acne on the face.
What Causes Acne
Acne is caused by bacteria. It is not caused by eating chocolate or drinking soda. Bacteria on the face that has clogged pores due to oily skin will cause outbreaks of acne. Using products that get rid of bacteria may help acne. Here are some questions often heard about controlling acne breakouts.
Can washing your face with Listerine help acne?
The answer is that it can. Listerine helps with bad breath because it contains bacteria-fighting agents. Therefore, by washing the face thoroughly and applying Listerine to a cotton ball and dabbing it on the face will help acne. Leave the Listerine on the face for about ten minutes after dabbing it on. Once the face is no longer tingling from the Listerine, thoroughly rinse. Make sure that original, not flavored, Listerine is used.
Again, it is the bacteria-fighting agents in the mouthwash that helps get rid of an outbreak of acne. It does not cure the actual cause of the acne.
Does steaming your face help acne?
Again, the answer is yes. Here is why. Steam will open the clogged pores, which will help the dirt to be eliminated from the face. It will also make the skin sweat which will help kill the bacteria. So it works on two levels. Plus, it will give the skin a healthy glow as it increases blood circulation and helps new tissue to grow.
Will acne face lotion help?
Acne face lotion will work. Temporarily. The problem is that face lotion will clear the face for a while, but after a few months the lotions tend to stop working. That means constantly switching to different brands in order to get relief.
How to Effectively Treat Acne
Getting rid of acne is often just a function of outgrowing it. Some adults also suffer from acne breakouts, but in the teen years the hormones can add to cases of acne.
The best way to prevent acne breakouts is to constantly keep the face very clean by washing with mild cleanser morning and night. Using a gel or cream containing benzoyl peroxide twice a day can help, but it can be irritating to the skin. If this happens, moisturize the skin with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. Be consistent, and be patient. Try not to break pimples as it can leave scars on the skin. Consult with a doctor for persistent acne.
